LETTERING INFORMATION

    ACADEMIC LETTERING
    This is the highest form of lettering. Academic letters are presented to students after the 3rd quarter of each year; based on a cumulative GPA, not a quarter GPA. This means you may not letter more than four times academically, in your high school career. Students earn letters if they earn the following GPA:

    Sophomores:
    a cumulative GPA of 3.8 entitles the student
    Juniors:
    a cumulative GPA of 3.7 entitles the student
    Seniors:
    a cumulative GPA of 3.6 entitles the student

    For students who have lettered academically, they will be recognized at an awards breakfast in the spring of the year.
    FLHS will sell an Academic bar for letter jackets in the Activities Office for $5.00 (must have certificate present to buy).

    MSHSL SPOTLIGHT ON SCHOLARSHIP
    The MSHSL gives out certificates for academics that are meant for your wall or your scrapbooks. The certificate is titled “Spotlight on Scholarship".

    THIS IS NOT AN ACADEMIC LETTER AWARD. Note: No bars or letters given for this.

    The MSHSL recognizes students who have achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or better while participating in interscholastic activities.

    This is not to be confused with Academic Lettering!

    HONOR ROLL
    The Forest Lake Times announces a Honor Roll per term. This is an honor, but does not lend itself to lettering.
    A = 3.7 to 4.0
    B = 3.0 to 3.699

    Athletic Lettering

    Lettering in a high school sport/activity is indicative of the sport/activity.  Some high school sports/activities are grade 7-12, some 9-12, some 10-12.  The criteria for earning a letter is determined by the coach or advisor of each activity.  Participants will be notified at the end of a season if they have earned a letter.  The first time lettering, students receive chenille "FL" letter from the high school.  Any other patches or bars are to be purchased at any of the local FL stores carrying them.
